Abstract

Altaf Hussain Hali (1837-1914) is a widely acknowledge as an Urdu Poet, Prose writer critic, he is also known as the first biographer in urdu literature. He authored three biographies, Hayat e Saadi, Yadqar e Ghalib and Hayat e Javid. Prior to Hali’s biographical endeavor we find only isolated biographical accounts by various Urdu writers. But credit for the growth of biography as independent gener goes to Hali.  This article offers research oriented and article overview of Hali.
