Abstract

In Urdu Literature, word Afsana has extensive meanings. It is
also known as short story, which formed in slightly more than one
hundred years. During this period it has passed through some
major phases, Munshi Praim chand is considered to be first short
story writer. Manto ,Rajinder Singh Bedi and Ismat chughtai
turned the short story in to a major genre of urdu literature. The
modrenists express the new version of life and present symbolic
meanings of things. The short story tradition continues with
younger generation
