Abstract

Maulana Ghulam Qadir Gramee, is a prominent name for his scholarly works and poetic contributions especially in Classical Persian language. Maulana Gramee was born in Jalundhar and didi Munshi Aalam and Munshi Faazal from Oriental College, Lahore. He also studies law and preferred teaching as profession but soon left it ti serve in the police department. Due to lack of aptitude he further migrated to Hyderabad Deccan, where Nizam Deccan honoured. His stay in Deccan proved very creative and contributed a lot to Classical Persian poetry. His association began with Allama Muhammad Iqbal which lasted for 25 years, til his death. Both honoured each other and appreciated their respective literary and poetic achievements. This unique association generated a misconcepton that Gramee is Ustaad of Allama Iqbal. Allama Iqbal recognizws Gramee as the greatest Persian poet after Urfi and Nazii. Hafiz Jalundhary proudly claims that the was a pupil of Maulana Grammee.
