Abstract

Urdu  language  and  literature evolved  with  the  lslamic teachings and practices of the most revered sufis and ulemas.    These  sufis  and  scholars casted  a great  influence on the culture of the sub - continent.   After the arabic language, urdu is the richest language. The propagation of lslamic teachings and values is mainly due to the development of  urdu  for  which   muslim conquerors played their significant role. They wrote in persian or arabic but delivered their  speeches   in  urdu  language.   Hence  they played  a pivotal role  in  the  development and     progress of urdu  language.  After  the  11th  century urdu  language became   popular  . Writers   endeavored  to    gave   status   to this   language  so  much    so   that   now   we   can   see , hear and  feel  it . lf we throw light on   the   history  of   urdu   language,  we come   to   know   that  in the very   beginning    people     used to    express    their    ideas    in  persian  language  but  later  on credit   goes   to   these  sufis   and   scholars  who  made urdu their tool, of   expression .   lt encouraged other writers and poets to  use urdu  as  their mode  of expression.   Now  the historians    and researchers acknowledge the role of these visionary sufis   and  scholars who  made  unprecedented contributions in the progress of urdu  language.
