Abstract

Developed from Sanskrit language,having absorbed cultural and semantical  influences from different  languages  particularly  Arabic and Persian,Urdu is a sea ,having in itself the richness of vocabulary of many  a tongue.Many works  of Persian  and  Arabic whether it comes to poetry or prose have  been  translated into Urdu,therefore contributing to  the  richness  of the  language(plain or  idiomatic).The representation  of  Islamic  philosophies, particularly the translation of the Holy Quran played a vital role in making  Urdu  formidable.It left Persian  far  behind  and  by the time the britains came in India  ,Urdu  was being given chief importance which resulted in the advent of Fort William College, a powerhouse  for Urdu literature of its time,translating different

works of Arabic,Persian and Sanskrit.
