Abstract

Arif    Abdul  Mateen  is a  progressive  bard   whose  Ghazal  (lyrical poetry) associated  with  aesthetic  values,  a fine amalgamation of subjectivity  and objectivity  plus it is reflective of social realism.  His poetry  is based  on his enviable  educational and  artistic  access and his profound thoughts  and  vision. After  the  partition (1947) if we discuss  the  renowned  poets  of the  era,  the  names  of Faiz  Ahmed Faiz,  Zaheer   Kashmiri,Sahir  Ludhianivi, Ahmed  Nadeem  Qasmi and  Arif Abdul  Mateen  appear on the canvas  of mind.  He derived all the metaphors and symbols from the progressive  movement  and aged  them  critically in  his poetry. Ideologically,  he  remained associated  with  progressive  till his last  breath. His poetry  reflects the sense of deprivation prevailed in the lives of the proletariat class. the power oriented  bourgeoisie.
