Abstract

This article aims at investigating  the nature of influence of Western criticism on Urdu criticism, particularly  on the books prepared for and according to the educational  needs of students of Urdu literature at different  times  in 20th  century.  The  author  has  derived  on  the conclusion  that   books in reference  demonstrate  multiple  kinds of influence.   Some books are literal translations of selected chapters or parts or paragraphs of few books of English criticism, usually secondary ones. It has been noted as an unethical  fact that writers of these Urdu books have'nt bother to  mention the names of books of English criticism they are relying on. The article  concludes  the article mentioning  those few books that show the scholarly acumen of their authors.
