Abstract

The concept  of a modern,  democratic,  independent  and  sovereign country is incomplete without legislature.  The legislative bodies are considered important pillars of modern state system. The representative institutions of the people also protect the interests of the masses. From 1897 to 1997, the members  of different Councils/Assemblies  of Punjab presented bills, raised question and points of orders, moved resolutions and staged  walks  out for the elevation  of the Urdu  language  and its enforcement as an official language of Pakistan. (Through) this article  it is attempted to examine the 9 Bills for the enforcement of Urdu which is considered a landmark step in the history of Pakistan. The procedings of Councils/Assemblies,debates, reports of standing committees and select committees are being in this article to assesses their significance for the promotion of Urdu.
